To All First Time Home Buyers….Some Helpful Tips To Successful Homeownership

The First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has officially expired.  Many new homeowners have purchased their first home.  Are you prepared for this responsibility?  What can you do to ensure success in owning a home?  Life happens and we are rarely ever ready for what comes along.  Being prepared and knowing what you plan to do and how to react to those emergencies will help you with your decisions.

First, consider wisely how you will spend or save your $8000 tax credit.  Saving some of this money in case of an emergency should definitely be a priority.

Second, consider getting an insurance policy that will cover your mortgage payments in the event you lose your job or are unable to work.

Third, if you do not already have a home warranty, you may consider a home warranty that will cover major appliances and defects that you are not aware of when you purchased the home.

Protecting your investment is important to successful homeownership.  Your home is your investment and making the right decisions concerning your home, your mortgage, and your protection of this investment shouldn’t be taken lightly.  Make sure that you work with professionals in each industry to ensure that you are getting the best options available for your personal protection and peace of mind.

Now, some advice for the future.  Many homeowners got themselves into trouble by refinancing their homes over and over again, each time extracting equity to purchase non-appreciating assets.  This has caused many homeowners to struggle and even go into foreclosure.  Refinancing your home can be a benefit and can help you build wealth if done with the right mortgage strategy, but can be detrimental if done incorrectly.  Seek the help of a Licensed and Certified Mortgage Professional that will guide you through the process of determining if refinancing is a benefit, depending on your personal financial situation.

Enjoy your new home and the opportunities that homeownership builds for your future.
